AAP and Congress pursue alliance ahead of Haryana elections

In line with the complicated negotiations regarding the number of seats on which AAP and Congress want to contest in the October 5 polls to the Haryana Assembly, Raghav Chadha from AAP claimed that AAP still has the desire, wish, and hope to join forces with Congress. As September 12, the nomination deadline draws nearer, both parties are set to have a final snapshot of their strategies.

Chadha was hopeful that they would be able to reach an understanding with the Congress leaders: ‘We will come to a conclusion by September 12. If there is no mutually beneficial outcome, then we will hold back.’ Some have reported that AAP wants to decide on 10 out of the 90 Assembly constituencies, while Congress is reluctant to give AAP more than seven owing to past performances.

The talks have been characterized as constructive, with Chadha feeling sure that a favorable outcome will benefit not only the Haryana state but also the multiparty system. Deepak Babaria, the Congress in charge of Haryana, expressed heartfelt sentiments. Seat-sharing agreements are still in the making to finalize the number of seats.

Although the AAP and AAP are members of the INDIA bloc that seeks to consolidate votes against the BJP, there are cracks in the AAP. Ruling MLA Somnath Bharti has raised concerns, heightening the pitch for AAP to go solo in all 90 Assembly constituencies based on the poor show in the Delhi alliance experiment.

However, Chadha stayed devoted to the progress of the continuous negotiations and did not wish to respond to any controversy. On a similar note, the AAP has also reached an agreement with another party in case of no alliance talks. While the parties are handling such key bargaining, the stakes are high in a state where the BJP has performed well recently.
