The Aam Aadmi Party has mounted an all-out attack on the BJP-ruled Union government, flagging the deteriorating law and order situation in the national capital. AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal expressed grave concern over the apparent loss of fear among criminals in Delhi: “Another morning with heartbreaking news. Bullets are being fired openly. Delhi’s criminals no longer have any fear of law and order,” he said in a post on X.
Accompanying his remarks, AAP shared a provocative image of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and commented, “Seeing Delhi bleeding, Mogambo is happy,” referencing a popular film character to underline their criticism of the government’s handling of security.
In a related development, AAP MP Sanjay Singh moved a notice to suspend regular business in the Rajya Sabha to discuss the rising crime and threats to the representatives in Delhi. The motion moved by Singh stated that the House needed to take up the issue of rising criminal activities in the capital, which is home to the Prime Minister and many MPs, on an urgent basis.
Singh mentioned various shocking incidents-including a recent bomb blast incident in Prashant Vihar and a threatening mail to a school in Rohini-and referred to the ruthless murder of a child in Shalimar Bagh and the daylight shooting of a businessman in Shahdara as indicative of increased criminal confidence.
Singh also referred to an alleged attack on former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal during a padyatra in Delhi, saying incidents like these escalate political temper and point to serious gaps in public safety. He said all these incidents are a matter of grave concern, particularly when the winter session of Parliament is in full swing, and raise very serious questions about the security arrangements in the capital.
In this regard, the Delhi Police arrested two suspects earlier this week over a shooting incident in Kalyanpuri, where a man suffered injuries due to an ongoing family dispute. Further details of the case are awaited since investigations are still ongoing.
