AAP Holds ‘Walk for Kejriwal’ Campaign in Support of Jailed Delhi CM.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) conducted a campaign-cum-walkathon titled ‘Walk for Kejriwal’ on April 28 in Delhi’s CR Park area. It was held in support of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who has been lodged in Tihar jail since April 1 concerning the excise policy case.
AAP supporters carried flags bearing Mr Kejriwal’s photo with the slogan ‘Jail ka jawab vote se’ (Response to arrest through votes). Addressing the gathering, Delhi Minister Atishi said people have come out to back the CM as the BJP assumed AAP couldn’t campaign if he were imprisoned.
Party leader Saurabh Bharadwaj also participated, stating PM Modi seems rattled. “We are running this ‘Jail ka jawaab vote se’ campaign against Kejriwal’s arrest. Our youth and LS candidates have organised this walkathon,” he remarked.
In a dig at the saffron party, Bharadwaj set up a “washing machine”, saying any corrupt politician placed in it would emerge clean.
The ED had contested Kejriwal’s plea against arrest in the Supreme Court, claiming he ignored summons despite multiple issuances. The Chief Minister has been lodged at Tihar since the agency apprehended him on March 21 in the excise case. The AAP perceives his continued detention as a vendetta.
