AAP files police case over Kejriwal’s ‘drunk constitution writers’ video

A clipped video of Arvind Kejriwal has been making the rounds on the internet. In it, he can hear, “Someone was saying that whoever has written the Constitution must have been drunk while writing it.”

New Delhi: Police have booked some social media users for allegedly sharing a clipped video of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.

The First Information Report (FIR) in Punjab’s Ludhiana names a lawyer, Viborg Anand, with over 40,000 followers from Delhi and five unidentified people. The case was registered based on complaints from AAP leaders and supporters.

As many as five FIRs have been registered in Ludhiana and around 12 in Punjab. The accused have alleged that the clipped videos have tarnished Mr Kejriwal’s image and hurt the sentiment of the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) communities.

Earlier in the day, Mr Anand shared a 9-second video of Mr Kejriwal, saying that he was heard talking to people: “Kuch baja raha hain ka kehne mein jisne bhi wahi Constitution li hai apni, bada mazak hai naa.” BJP MP Manoj Tiwari also tweeted the same video.

However, in a 19-second video released by AAP leaders, Mr Kejriwal was seen saying something about the Constitution of the Congress party rather than the Indian Constitution. Constitution of Congress party says no worker shall consume liquor. According to reports, ” someone amongst us said the one who wrote the Constitution must have been drunk while writing it,” Mr Kejriwal said during his speech, delivered 12 years ago.
