Tihar Violence Reignites Security Concerns for Arvind Kejriwal.
AAP leader Sanjay Singh cited a scuffle at Tihar jail that left four inmates injured to allege a threat to CM Arvind Kejriwal’s life while imprisoned. Deferring to the incident and past murders inside the facility, Singh flagged the possibility of a “dangerous conspiracy.” He questioned accountability if a similar fate befell the CM under “vicious opposition”.
Reports say the clash erupted between two groups vying for dominance. It began reportedly over toilet access before one attacked others with improvised weapons.
While the injured were rushed to hospital and a case registered, Tihar has a chilling history of gang battles ending in killings. Infamous inmates like Tillu Tajpuria and Prince Teotia fell to targeted attacks by rivals last year.
Singh demanded proper security for Kejriwal, given the volatile dynamics. The development has reignited the debate around safeguarding high-profile undertrials amid allegations of political vendetta in his jailing over allegations surrounding last year’s Delhi riots.
Though authorities probe the jail violence, concerns remain over ensuring the dignity and welfare of all inmates, including those with rivalries or those who violate the law, such as public leaders. Safeguards aim to uphold the principles of a free and fair justice system.
