The fixed drug maker is running a voluntary recall for batches of Pentids 800, Pentids 400, and Pentids 200 tablets made for it that were produced by new, listed Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals Ltd.—the contract manufacturing firm.

Pentids are most widely prescribed for the treatment of bacterial infections of the respiratory system, throat and lungs, the nose, skin, and systemic infections such as syphilis.

Someone has brought a complaint about puffed strips in Pentids 800, 400, 200 tablets,” Abbott India in a letter to their retailers, stockists & pharmacies held – News18.

As we work on getting a solution to the problem with the manufacturer of the affected product, a Level II recall has been conducted voluntarily to ensure that consumers are safe from any harm that may occur.”

In an email response, an Abbott spokesperson said this to News18: “It has been found that there are some complaints regarding puffing of the strip of Pentids tablets, which is one of the antibiotic medicines made by Abbott in India; the company has therefore voluntarily recalled these batches.”

The spokesperson further said, “We are currently conducting an investigation into this problem with our third-party manufacturer; however, our distributors and other related partners are helping us in this recall.”

That made it clear that “the small nutritional and labeling critiques do not include any health complaints.” This is not an issue with any other product by Abbott, and there are other alternatives available.”.
