Accused in Mumbai BMW tragedy confesses to habitual drinking

Mihir Shah, the 23-year-old alleged accused involved in the Mumbai BMW hit-and-run case, recently said that he uses liquor regularly during the grilling by the police. This admission comes after the young man was arrested by society after being on the run for three days.

The probe also revealed that Mihir Shah got a haircut even when he went to a barber shop in Virar to deceive the police by shaving off his beard. The barber’s statement supports the above details.

The tragic happening took place on the night of July 6th when Mihir Shah, who was reportedly over the edge coming from a bar in Juhu, lost control of a BMW car he was driving and hit a couple on a two-wheeler. Its casualty was 45 years Kaveri Nakhwa, a mother of two kids, who was along with her husband Pradeep Nakhwa to buy fish. Pradeep Nakhwa also emerged injured after the mishap.

An amazing and shocking CCTV footage of the incident displayed that the son of Shiv Sena politician Rajesh Shah Mihir Shah changed the seats with the driver Rajrishi Bidawat after the accident. The footage also went on to imply that Mihir Shah had dragged Kaveri Nakhwa’s dead body for about 1. 5 km to a standstill of the car; by which time he dragged the body out from under the car and escaped from the scene.

The police did not rest and ensured that Mihir Shah was captured after escaping for three days. On one of his outings, one of his friends relighted his phone, which helped the police arrest the accused.

Worryingly, Mihir Shah, together with 12 other persons of interest and his parents, have been arrested, too, as the police continue with their investigations.

This tragedy has again brought into light the fact that there is an acute need for enhanced implementation of laws related to road safety and the implications of rash driving on roads, which is fueled by drunkenness. In this case, the community prepares for justice in the death of a mother and the physical harm that had been inflicted on the husband.
