Air India Pilot Prevents Tragedy by Detecting Fuel Leak

Chennai: A potential tragedy was averted at the Chennai Airport on Wednesday when the pilot of an Air India flight travelling from Chennai to Singapore detected a possible fuel leak during the final pre-flight inspection.

Chennai: Disaster was narrowly averted on Wednesday at the Chennai Airport when the pilot of an Air India flight that was to take off from here for Singapore detected a probable fuel leak during the final technical checks.

The flight carrying 145 passengers, including crew members, was to fly at noon on Wednesday. However, the pilot noticed the technical snag and immediately informed Air Traffic Control (ATC).

Engineers and airport administration immediately addressed the issue, which was subsequently fixed. Later, the flight got all clearances safely and took off from the spot.

On the same day, seven departure and five arrival flights were suspended at Chennai Airport due to several reasons. The departure flights are from Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Madurai, Shimoga, Bagdogra, Jaffna and Kolkata. The arrival flights to Thiruvananthapuram, Madurai, Kochi, Kolkata, and Jaffna were suspended.

According to reports, eight flights were cancelled due to operational issues. However, the two other flights suffered a technical problem. Inclement weather over Jaffna caused cancellations during departure and arrival flight operations there.

Moreover, it diverted one flight from New Delhi to Chennai that was to arrive there with rain that momentarily stalled things on Wednesday morning in Bengaluru.

The New Delhi flight, scheduled for 10 a.m. arrival, could not make it due to the adverse weather.This incident is the latest aviation-related issue at the Chennai airport.

A SpiceJet flight from Chennai to Kochi immediately returned to Chennai Airport on Monday (December 9) morning following a technical glitch it encountered mid-air.
