Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh appointed as new Indian air force chief

Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh was appointed as the next IAF Chief.

New Delhi: Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh will take over as the 26th Chief of the Indian Air Force, with effect from September 30.

The Ministry of Defence made the announcement today, noting that Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari will demit office upon his retirement.

Singh, currently serving as Vice Chief of Air Staff, holds extensive operational and staff experience garnered during nearly four decades in the force.

A decorated fighter pilot with over 5,000 flight hours, he has commanded frontline bases and led the MiG-29 upgrade program in Moscow.

As a test pilot, Singh oversaw flight testing for indigenous platforms like Tejas and headed the National Flight Test Centre.

Prior key roles include Air Defence commander at South Western Air Command and Senior Air Staff Officer at Eastern Air Command. Most recently, he was Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Air Command.

Singh’s appointment comes in recognition of his distinguished career spanning instruction, foreign duties, and leadership of multiple critical commands.

The IAF Chief-designate is a highly qualified experimental test pilot and flying instructor with the prestigious National Defence Academy and Defence Services Staff College credentials.
