Ajmer Court acquits accused in Nupur Sharma protest case

Against all expectations, a court in Ajmer, Rajasthan, has acquitted the six people accused of protesting raucously against Nupur Sharma outside Moinuddin Chishti Dargah in 2022.

The slogans were being exercised after the severe abusive comments on Prophet Muhammad by Sharma; the action received both domestic Indian and global Muslim community outrage.

The trial was conducted in the court of an additional district judge working in Ajmer; Gulam Nazmi was the public prosecutor of the case. The accused were Khadim of Ajmer Dargah Gauhar Chishti and six other men, including Tazim Siddiki, Farook Zamali, Nasir, Riyaz Hasan, and Moin, who were all acquitted by the court.

Chishti, under whose instance the whole case was registered, the accusers have claimed that he gave a hate speech in the presence of policemen near the Nizam gate of the Moinudin Chishti Dargah at a time dated June 17, 2022. He had also organized a rally soon after for the Muslim community regarding Nupur Sharma’s indecent remarks.

The daughter took offense at remarks made by Nupur Sharma, a former BJP leader involved in a TV debate on Times Now. The debate resulted in a global backlash that led to Sharma’s official suspension from the BJP.

Chishti said this after being acquitted: “Justice has been done in my case. I want to thank the government. ”

It has once more brought to the populace the issues involving religious and political techniques in the country, and the legal affairs concerning this issue have sparked more discussion.
