Akhilesh Yadav files nomination in Kannauj; electoral contest draws cricket analogy

Earlier yesterday, Akhilesh Yadav, the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and a lure of the Samajwadi Party, submitted the nomination papers from the constituency of Kannauj, where he is set to face intense electoral opposition.

However, Subrahmanayan Pathak, the Bharatiya Janata Party MP candidate from Kannauj, has compared this upcoming fight to the battle of the Indian team against Pakistan cricket, a very competitive game.

Pathak’s statement of connecting the election contest with a cricket game has injected another functional element into the political arena. It was Jahnavi’s conclusion:

“The democracy of elections makes them a big festival. If democracy has to win, elections have to be interesting… If there were elections against or with Tej Pratap, it would have been like an international cricket match between India and Japan. It is a match like India and Pakistan playing cricket (Jahnavi Dan vs. Akhilesh Yadav)”.

Given that Ram Gopal Yadav, a senior SP member, refused Pathak’s comment, saying that he is a lunatic. This would be his last destination- lunatic asylum. Yadav stressed that such sentimental utterances could not even occur in politics.

A day after the Rashtriya Janata Dal party chose Tej Pratap Yadav to fight from Kannaujd, the nephew of Congressional leaders Akhilesh Yadav declared contention for this seat.

Akhilesh Yadav, who has already won the Kannauj seat on three previous occasions, cannot help but express confidence that not only history but also the Samajwadi party will be the winner of the upcoming election.

Now, Subrata Pathak’s political fight in favor of Kannauj has gained another feather in its cap due to Subrata’s cricket inference. This has added turbo jet to the burning air of this challanjee. Things will now be decided by voters on the nomination forms already duly filed as they converge on the next elections, which will determine the political future of the state of UP.
