Police personnel had to resort to a lathi charge after a group of lawyers allegedly misbehaved with a district judge in the Ghaziabad district court complex in Raj Nagar on Tuesday.
What led to the altercation at the Sessions Court was not immediately apparent. However, videos doing rounds on social media showed many police personnel and lawyers clashing inside the courtroom. The videos showed lawyers and baton-wielding police personnel coming to blows.
On Thursday, Aligarh lawyers held a mass protest demonstration outside the district court. Slogans were raised against the administration to stop the “injustice and oppression” being done to lawyers. The lawyers accused them of being harassed non-stop by the police and courts.
Demand For Judge’s Transfer The protesting lawyers said that despite their “hard work and honesty,” they were not getting “justice.” “The lathi charge incident crossed all limits of patience.
We are now determined to stand up against this injustice,” a protester said. During the demonstration, the lawyers held placards with slogans like “Transfer Judge,” “Oppose Police Lathi Charge,” and “Justice For Lawyers” written on them. They made it clear that they would not compromise on the matter.
The lawyers further said that the attitude of the police was also highly harmful. They said it was upon the government to ensure the lawyers were safe. Charge, but also about rights and dignity.
