Videos of Justice Yadav speaking on provocative issues, including his purported remark on “law working according to the majority,” were circulated on social media.
Allahabad High Court’s sitting judge, Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav, who courted controversy over his alleged remarks at an event of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), is likely to appear before the Supreme Court collegium to explain his stand, PTI reported. The apex court on December 10 noted the news reports and sought a report from the high court.
“The Supreme Court has taken note of newspaper reports of a speech given by Mr Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav, a sitting judge of the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad. The details and particulars have been called from the high court, and the matter is under consideration,” a statement was quoted by PTI.
As per conventional procedures, a judge whose case is under consideration for an adverse report by the SC collegium on any contentious matter brought forth from the High Court concerned is offered the opportunity to present his or her side of the matter before the Collegium under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of India.
