Accused Lawrence Bishnoi, who is in judicial custody in connection with the murder of a celebrity, was on a killing spree for threatening him over a phone call two days before the crime.

The jailed gangster’s gang had planned to murder Bollywood actor Salman Khan near his farmhouse in Panel in Maharashtra by holding his car and opening fire on him with AK-47 rifles, as claimed by the sources quoted in the paper. In connection width the case, the police in Panel have apprehended four shooters from the Bishnoi gang.

The names of the shooters who were arrested are Dhananjay Taping, alias Ajay Kashyap; Gaurav Bhatia, alias Navi; Wispy Khan, alias Wasim China; and Rizwan Khan, alias Javeed Khan.

There were 20 people who possibly plotted this failed attempt, said the source. Besides, these four men had been staying in different locations in Panel prior to the incident in April; Ajay Kashyap was the link between everyone; he also knew about the weapons presupposed for the alleged plot; they even spoke about the escape plan.

However, the other even graver videos, which the police said they found on the mobile phones of the arrested accused, showed them being told to attack Salman Khan with other weapons, apart from the AK-47 rifles.

India Today TV quoted the police source as saying that Kashyap stated that during the interrogation he had contacts with an arms dealer, namely Dogan, in Pakistan to acquire the M16, AK-47, and AK-92 rifles for the purpose of perpetrating the accused act.

On the question of the involvement of the Pakistan link, DCP Pansare said, “We are investigating, and this involves more persons in connection with this case, and 16 members have been in this police force since October 2023.”

The Navi Mumbai Police press release states that the tip-off was received that about 60–70 boys of the Lawrence Bishnoi and Sampath Nehra gang used to be hired from Mumbai.
