Amit Shah pitches for Ram temple-style Sita memorial in Sitamarhi
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has asserted the BJP’s intent to construct a grand memorial of Goddess Sita in Bihar’s Sitamarhi, citing examples of recent temple movements spearheaded by the party.
While canvassing for the Lok Sabha polls in Sitamarhi constituency, Shah said unlike opposition forces, the BJP was undeterred by ‘vote bank politics’ in delivering on issues of faith important to Hindus.
Referring to the Ram Janambhoomi movement, which culminated in a grand Ram temple at Ayodhya under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, he added that a befitting tribute at Sita’s birthplace was the logical next step.
Mythological texts identify Sitamarhi as the region where Queen Sita emerged from a furrowed field and won Lord Ram’s heart.
Shah took the occasion to slam RJD chief Lalu Prasad over his alliance with Congress, accusing both parties of neglecting the development of backward communities over their political interests.
He highlighted central honours bestowed on former Bihar CM Karpoori Thakur by the Modi government in contrast with past regimes.
With 40 seats in Bihar voting in the coming phase, Shah reiterated the BJP-led NDA’s development-oriented governance was necessary versus the perceived ‘jungle raj’ under opposition rule.
