Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday evening to inaugurate a three-day tour, his first one after the National Conference government of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took charge in October last year.
Upon his arrival at the technical airport, Shah was greeted by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and senior BJP leaders. His itinerary includes a visit to a forward post along the India-Pakistan border, where he will assess the security situation and inspect under way development work.
During the evening, Shah will tour a BJP headquarters meeting in Trikuta Nagar, as per the party’s foundation day. BJP workers and leaders had earlier joyfully celebrated the day at the headquarters. Police and security officers have enhanced vigilance in anticipation of Shah’s visit across the region.
The Home Minister will be visiting the BSF Border Outpost in Kathua on Monday to gauge the ground situation. He will also host the families of martyrs of Jammu and Kashmir Police at the Raj Bhavan in Jammu and hand out appointment letters to a few shortlisted on compassionate grounds.
Amit Shah will preside over a meeting on April 8 at Srinagar’s Raj Bhavan on various development schemes in the Union Territory. He will then attend another meeting to take stock of the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier in the day on Sunday, J&K BJP president Sat Sharma unfurled the party flag at the headquarters, joined by senior leaders including MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta, and Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma. The same flag hoisting ceremonies were organized at district headquarters and homes of BJP workers throughout Jammu and Kashmir to celebrate the 46th foundation day of the party, a party spokesperson said.
