Speaking at a rally in the western Indian state of Maharashtra, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said Congress did not revoke Article 370, which gave Jammu and Kashmir an autonomous status, due to its ‘appeasement politics’.
Shah was in Karnal to address an election rally where he once again reiterated the BJP’s stand that PoK rightfully belongs to India and that the government will take it.
He also criticized the Congress over its controversial stand on the Ram temple issue and questioned why the top Congress leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Sonia Gandhi, were not there during the temple’s consecration ceremony. He suggested that they stayed away because they were also eyeing the benefit of minority votes.
”Congress could not decide to revoke Art 370 even though terrorist activities increased manifold as they wanted to remain in power through the appeasement policy”.
In an apparent reference to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s resounding success in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, which was followed by the Abolition of Article 370 in the region, Shah said,
“You all made Narendra Modi ji the Prime Minister for the second time, and on August 5, 2019, he abrogated Article 370. Now our national flag flies high in Kashmir.”
It must be noted that the Home Minister’s statement comes at a time when politics in the country is being played in the arena of national security, development and winning the Hindu hearts and minds for the BJP vote banks.
