Amit Shah urges IPS officers to combat Anti-National activities

On Thursday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that young IPS officers must adopt a firm attitude to defeat anti-national activities. He was interacting with the 2023 batch of probationers in New Delhi. Shah underlined that the police have the most crucial responsibility among all departments for ensuring citizens’ fundamental rights.

He called for the police to be vigilant and proactive, keeping crime in the country as low as possible and rendering effective justice. “Now is the time to protect the rights of citizens and to prevent atrocities against them,” Shah said.

Emphasizing national security, the Minister said it did not mean mere safety of borders. “A Nation consists of its citizens. The security of the citizen is the foundation of national security,” he said.

Shah said besides the protection of life and property, security also meant the protection of constitutional rights. “The Constitution has given equal rights to the poorest of the poor as to the Prime Minister of the country, and police are under constitutional duty to protect those rights,” Shah said.

Addressing the probationers, Shah said that no task in policing is large or small and no role is less important. He said, “The ultimate reward for any police officer who serves as SP in his youth is to be remembered affectionately by the people for the good work done.

He said young officers should, therefore, decide upon a firm action against anti-national activities and prioritize national security. Shah showed confidence in the present national security state: “No one dares to challenge India’s borders or its Army now. We have considerably strengthened border security.

The Home Minister referred to the improvement in the overall situation in hitherto troubled areas and announced that violence in Jammu and Kashmir, the Northeast, and Left-Wing Extremism-affected areas had come down by 70% because of the efficiency of the security forces. He asserted that Indian agencies now feel their presence in these hotspots.

Coming back to the future, Shah talked about the new criminal laws that will be implemented within five years, complete with their technological advancements in training. He said the wheels of justice would run fast, and cases would be solved within three years from the time an FIR is registered.
