Andhra CM’s solution to ageing population: ‘Have more kids’

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu once again revived the region’s aging population issue and appealed to people to have more children.

Naidu said his government was contemplating legislation that would restrict participation in the local body election to those who have two or more children.

We would encourage families to have two or more children. We will persuade couples to increase their children’s number.

We repealed the legislation restricting voters to those with more than two children. We will legislate a new one, wherein only those with more than two children will be eligible for the contest, said Naidu on Saturday (Oct 19).

CM rings alarm bells over fall in population growth rate in the state
The young generations moved to other parts of the country or went abroad; in several districts, only older people remained behind.

“The young generation has shifted from various villages across Andhra Pradesh and the country, and only elderly people are left in those villages,” Naidu said.

The Chief Minister also says that the population growth rate in Andhra Pradesh has dropped by 1.6 percent, and the average growth rate in India will decline from 6.2 percent in the 1950s to 2.1 percent in 2021.

“We are already in deficit. Having less than two children leads to the rapid decline of the young population. Having more than two kids will ensure a stable population,” said Naidu.
