A woman in Andhra Pradesh received a parcel containing human remains instead of the expected electrical materials for her home. The incident came to light in West Godavari district.
The woman, Sagi Tulasi, a resident of Yendagandi village of the district’s Undi Mandal, was expecting materials from Kshatriya Seva Samiti for her under-construction house.
She had sought financial help from the organization earlier when she was given tiles. This time, too, she was expecting electrical materials such as lights and fans. But a parcel that landed at her doorstep contained a human torso and an extortion letter demanding Rs 1.3 crore. The letter threatened dire consequences if the amount was not paid.
The torso discovery shocked Tulasi and her family into pandemonium. The police were alerted immediately but confirmed that the torso was of a man aged approximately 45 years, likely to have died about five days ago. The body was sent for autopsy.
West Godavari SP Adnan Nayeem Asmi visited the spot and oversaw the investigation. The police were investigating missing person complaints and summoning representatives of the Kshatriya Seva Samiti for questioning as they worked to identify the deceased and those responsible for the crime.
