A deeply disturbing case has come to light in Assam, where a senior police official stands accused of repeatedly preying upon a minor domestic helper under his employment. The horrific allegations have sent shockwaves through the state and beyond.
The victim, a mere child of 15 years, has bravely come forward to recount her unspeakable ordeal. According to her testimony, Deputy Superintendent of Police Kiran Nath, posted at the prestigious Lachit Borphukan Police Academy, forcibly confined her within the confines of his residence. There, she alleges, he subjected her to repeated acts of sexual violence, aided and abetted by his very own family members who participated in her torture.
The young girl’s harrowing cries for help finally reached her own family, who wasted no time in filing a complaint with the Dergaon police station on Saturday. Faced with the gravity of the accusations, the authorities swiftly registered a case against the disgraced officer on Sunday.
Photr it happened, Assam’s Director General of Police, Gyanendra Pratap Singh, strongly denounced the alleged gender harassment cases with his zero-tolerance policy on such acts of sexual harassment within the police of this state. A powerful message on social media made the closed mind of Singh that “zero acceptance and intolerance towards sexual misconduct among police personnel remains a permanent feature of the policy of Assam Police.”
Barely three days after he hacked into the internet sensations and prominent social media influencers like Kiran Nath, the world learned that this 23-year-old hacker from Bengaluru was arrested for his horrendous crimes. Along with the Indian Penal Code, Kiran was charged under the Peace of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO). The allegations made against him are that he has had sex with somebody under the age of sixteen, intimidated a female child into submitting to him sexually, and that he has done something illegal regarding the usage of children.
At the start of the investigation, police had already attended to the victim and written her testimony as well as collected testimonies from other witnesses. The justice cause has been set ablaze with a fierce desire for justice as citizens and authorities vow to no longer live with a system of authority that has lost all semblance of trust in a sworn protector of the law.
