Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal rejoined his party on Friday from Tihar Jail after spending about six months in prison. His discharge comes after the apex court allowed him to seek bail in a corruption case concerning the alleged Delhi liquor scandal, which the CBI prosecuted.
Speaking before AAP loyalists in a downpour, Kejriwal said:
“I thank God for this moment and millions who stood behind me. I have devoted every ounce of my energies to this nation. They wanted to demoralise me, but my morale was higher than before. ”
In an interview, Kejriwal promised to defeat what he calls ‘anti-national forces’ that he said are trying to subvert India. The CBI arrested him on June 26, and earlier, he had quizzed the Delhi High Court’s verdict regarding his arrest.
During the bail grant, the Supreme Court placed certain conditions on Kejriwal, including the ban on making statements concerning the case and limitation to official duties except where there is a need for the sanction of the Lieutenant Governor.
