Arvind Kejriwal to resign as Delhi chief minister

Less than one week after getting bail in the liquor policy issue, Arvind Kejriwal stated his decision to resign from the position of Delhi Chief Minister during one of his speeches to AAP activists on Sunday. He said that his replacement is expected to be decided within the next two days, given that there will be a meeting of the legislative party.

Like most of his AAP counterparts, Kejriwal demanded that the Delhi, slated for February 2025, should be conducted alongside Maharashtra in November this year. “I insist on simultaneous eligibility of both elections to occur with that of Maharashtra’s till when I get another member to be our Chief Minister from Aam Aadmi Party,” he said.

Party sources revealed that Kejriwal wants to get out from the Chief Minister’s residence within the 15 days after resignation. This decision made in a meeting behind doors, with other senior AAP leaders was describe in a number of meetings that led up to the announcement. “In the first meeting, Kejriwal briefed the top level party organization about his decision and in successive deliberations the tactics was fine tuned,” added the sources.

Kejriwal was released from prison on Friday after the Supreme Court yesterday granted him bail of a corruption case associated with the defunct liquor policy. He is the fifth high profile personality to get bail in this case joining other AAP leaders and a member of Bharat Rashtra Samithi.

In his speech, Kejriwal expressed an obedience to people, saying, “I will not sit on the Chief Minister’s chair unless the people decide… I will go door to door and street to street until that time. ’ However, he insisted that the AAP had its member for this position and named Manish Sisodia as the one not to be a Chief Minister of Delhi.

Kejriwal, for his part, said that the central government plotting couldn’t deter him or his fight for justice. He complained bitterly against the Centre saying that it is even more autocratic than the British colony and narrating his experience in prison he said that he only wrote a letter while he was confined in prison.

The people of Delhi have supported him, and he said that AAP leaders Satyendar Jain and Amanatullah Khan, who are in jail now, will be out soon.
