Delhi court extends judicial custody of Arvind Kejriwal, K Kavitha.
A Delhi court has extended the judicial custody of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and TRS leader K Kavitha till May 7 in an alleged money laundering case linked to Delhi’s excise policy.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja prolonged their detention after the duo were produced via videoconferencing in individual hearings on Tuesday.
Earlier, the Delhi HC had dismissed a PIL seeking extraordinary interim bail for Kejriwal in all criminal cases. The court imposed a fine of Rs 75,000, stating high-ranking individuals cannot be granted special provisional bail.
The acting CJI emphasized the equal application of the law, as Kejriwal is currently in custody per a court order pending a Supreme Court challenge.
On April 9 too, the HC had dismissed Kejriwal’s plea against his arrest by the ED, noting his repeated failure to comply with summons had rendered the action legal.
Kejriwal is currently lodged in Tihar jail with the Rouse Avenue Court, extending his custody until April 23.
It remains to be seen whether he will be granted relief in the upcoming hearing on May 7 in this high-profile money laundering case involving senior political figures.
