ED summons Delhi Transport Minister in Excise Policy case.
A day after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal‘s interrogation ended with a court extending his custody, the ED has summoned Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot in connection with its money laundering probe in the excise policy scam.
In a related development, Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal had earlier started a WhatsApp campaign ‘Kejriwal ko Ashirwad’ asking Delhiites to bless her husband with their support.
Addressing a online media briefing, she stated that Kejriwal has challenged the “most corrupt and dictatorial forces” and appealed to people to pray for his well-being.
On Thursday, Kejriwal was produced before the Rouse Avenue Court as his ED remand ended. The Court extended his custody till April 1 after ED sought more time for questioning.
The case pertains to irregularities in Delhi’s now-scrapped excise policy case. The CBI had registered an FIR in this connection last week naming Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia as the prime accused.
Both the federal agencies – ED and CBI – are probing if any proceeds of crime under money laundering charges were generated and if so, were laundered by the accused. Political quarters view this as fallout of a turf war between Delhi government and the Centre.
