It seems certain that the Congress Party of Delhi is heading to yet another crisis as senior leader Arvinder Lovely has finally quit.
In a sudden move that created a ripple among the Congress ranks in Delhi, Arvind Lovely, the DoPT, tendered his resignation drastically. The experienced leader, however, didn’t mince his words as he described the persistent intrusiveness of a top party official as the reason that led him to make the decision to resign.
The story unfolds from here when this veteran Congress loyalist, Lowell, having served only a year in his tenure, decides to quit. In this letter of resignation, which was soon spread everywhere on media outlets, he was straight forward, and as he said, a particular leader had always kept on getting involved in the party’s internal issues, keeping him from doing his job effectively.
Suddenly, Delhi Congress was in turmoil as the howitzer Lovely’s on the tape sent a shockwave through the party. The in-coming chief earned both supporters and detractors at the same time. Some of the latter were pleased with his candor, but from the other camp, there appeared incipient turmoil that could have a fatal impact on the party’s day-to-day functioning.
When the politicians start point-scoring, all the hopes are pinned down on the Congress high command to bring the situation under control and solve the communicational gap within the Delhi unit. Will the decision to leave the party of Lovely be a wake-up call, or, on the contrary, will he plunge it into more and more chaos? Certainly, the only answer now is the passage of time, since the only thing that is certain here is the fact that the Delhi Congress has a leadership problem amidst many prominent challenges.
