Assam Rifles officers clash with Mizoram minister’s convoy

Reports have emerged claiming that a convoy of Mizoram Power Minister Rodingliana was stopped by Assam Rifles, with reports afterwards indicating a clash.

In a fresh face-off between the Mizoram government and the Assam rifles, Mizoram Power and Electricity Minister F Rodingliana on Thursday alleged that his convoy was halted by Assam Rifles personnel on the outskirts of Aizawl.

The incident occurred as he was returning from Champhai district and led to a confrontation between the minister and the security forces.

On Thursday, Rodingliana said his convoy was being held up at a barricade on National Highway 54, even after he had presented himself as a minister.

He described the situation, saying minutes after crossing the barricade, three soldiers approached and insisted that they had been instructed by their commanding officer to stop his vehicle. “I told them that I am the Power Minister but they delayed our passage, end.”.

Reacting to the allegations, the Assam Rifles said nothing amiss had been done. It said the exercise was a routine security check and a mobile checkpost had been put up about four kilometers down from their Zokhawsang base along the Aizawl-Seiling road.

Rodingliana’s convoy was allowed passage without any obstructions in the process of checking. An officer from Assam Rifles said that Rodingliana’s convoy stopped at a allotted place for civilian vehicle checks.
