Audio clips raise concerns over the handling of the doctor’s death

Two voice recordings that were procured have brought questions about how information is managed at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, as a woman who was a doctor at the facility was raped and killed on August 9.

In the first scene, an ordinary conversation takes place between the man who is the father of the victim and an assistant superintendent of the hospital. In the first scene, the official man tells him that his daughter is extremely unwell and has been hospitalized. In the second scene, there is a voice coming through a megaphone that tells the parents that the trainee medic is dead and has committed suicide; the parents must come to the hospital.

In the first call, the assistant superintendent says to the child’s father, “Her condition is really bad. Your daughter has been hospitalized. Please come as soon as you can. ” When the father asks him basic questions about her condition, he replies, “I am not a doctor; I am an assistant superintendent. A doctor will tell you more. ”

A brief transcription highlights the distressing exchange: A brief transcription highlights the distressing exchange:

RG Kar: She is sick; we should go to the hospital. We’re admitting her.
Parents: Kindly could you inform us what has happened?
RG Kar: She’s seriously sick; let her be admitted.
Parents: Is she having a fever?
RG Kar: A doctor will inform you when you are there.
Parents: Has she got a fever?
RG Kar: Can’t say; she might have committed suicide.
Parents: [Silence]In the second clip, a man informs the parents about their daughter’s death with such words as: ‘She is no more. She might have killed herself. The policemen are here. You should come quickly. ’

In both audio samples, there is something very worrisome, which is the fact that the parents, when coming to the doctor asking for information about their daughter’s condition, are only offered vague answers that only a doctor will give them a full account of what they need to know.

Even though these audio recordings have not been authorized by other sources, they support the parents’ stories in which they stated that the authorities of the hospital told them their daughter committed suicide and did not allow them to identify her body for several hours.

While some reports claim the woman on the audio to be Anita Dhara, the current assistant superintendent, the former head of the chest medicine department says that the call was made by Dwaipayan Biswas, a deputy superintendent.
