Badlapur: 12-hour delay in FIR, but protesters arrested in 24 hours

Badlapur school case: Sexual abuse of two girls in a school in Badlapur, Maharashtra, has led to anger after the complaints that the parents were forced to wait for 12 hours at the police station.

More than 70 persons have been arrested, and five FIRs have been registered against 500 persons for the protests in Maharashtra’s Badlapur against the sexual abuse of two kindergarten students. This much is clear: the police are prompt in arresting the protesters compared to the action of the ‘cops’ in registering the FIR, which seems to have taken 12 hours.

The opposition has vowels and consonants gone in attacking the Mahayuti-led government over the insensitivity of the police.

The main opposition, Maha Vikas Aghadi, comprising of Congress and NCP (SP), and Shiv Sena (UBT), condemned the police for making the parents of the girl child wait for twelve hours at the Badlapur police station while taking their complaints.

There was also an alleged 10-hour delay in the medical examination of the girls, which raised the spectre of an attempt by the administration to hush up the matter.

Adding salt to the injury is the fact that the mother of one of the two girls was detained for over 10 hours at the police station while she was two months pregnant, state run The Indian Express reported.
