Kolkata police cracks key leads in gruesome murder of Bangladesh MP.
In a breakthrough in the horrific killing and dismemberment of Bangladesh MP Anwarul Azim Anar, Kolkata police have arrested an illegal immigrant who has provided critical leads, including four others’ involvement.
The Dhaka MP had come to the city for medical treatment but vanished from his New Town flat on May 14 after CCTV showed him entering with an acquaintance. His remains were found strewn across locations in plastic packets, revealing a sinister plot.
While Dhaka police scrutinize the role of woman Shilasti Rahman, who allegedly ‘honey trapped’ the victim to the address, the detained Jihad Hawladar spilled identities linked to the crime after his Friday questioning.
These encompass US citizen Akhtaruzzaman, believed to be the mastermind with links to Rahman, who might have paid Rs 5 crore commission. His whereabouts remain untraced, and police suspect he has fled overseas.
Hawladar also spotlighted the rental flat owner—a state employee—for accommodating Akhtaruzzaman’s associate.
Chilling details have emerged of the body being skinned, minced, and dismembered methodically to erase identification before packaging and disposal of remnants in the area, possibly with some stored temporarily.
While investigations span two countries, Kolkata police efforts have uncovered critical leads to apprehending the perpetrators of the heinous crime that has shocked the region.
