Bangladesh MP murder case cracks in Kolkata, 3 arrested.
The shocking murder case of Bangladesh Awami League MP Anwarul Azim Anar seems to be cracking up in Kolkata with the arrest of three suspects in Bangladesh. Anar had gone missing since May 14, just two days after arriving in the Indian city reportedly for medical treatment.
As per sources, the detained individuals have confessed to killing the MP, even as his body is yet to be found. Indian and Bangladeshi police are jointly investigating the matter. Blood stains were found in the New Town flat from where the lawmaker disappeared last.
Home Ministry sources told local media that the murderers may have dismembered Anar’s body and disposed of it. While Kolkata Police had already seized the MP’s car, a fresh search in the apartment led to the discovery of blood marks on the floor and basin.
At a press meeting, Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan confirmed Anar’s killing but no disclosure on details or motive. He said the perpetrators will be uncovered soon with full cooperation from Indian authorities as per protocols.
A three-time Jhenaidah MP known to be close to PM Sheikh Hasina, Anar came to India through a border point. His supporters have demanded a fair probe, gathering outside his residence in protests.
Police of both countries are coordinating the investigation into this shocking alleged targeted killing of a prominent Bangladeshi politician.
