In the Watergam region of Baramulla the exchange of fire was reported and the security forces neutralized the terrorist. An official release accepted the incident and said that one terrorist was gunned down and his weapon was found at the scene of the shootout while the identity of the terrorist is being verified.
The operation is still under way in the concerned region, with security forces, comprising of the army, paramilitary troops and the local police deployed in large numbers.
For the last three months, the security forces have launched a campaign of operations targeting the terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir with increased alertness to foil any attempt by the banned outfits to derail the Assembly polls.
To further strengthen the security apparatus more than 300 companies of para military forces are being sent in the union territory to enhance the strength of security forces.

The modus operandi they have had is that they attack suddenly and then flee to the thick scrubland of these districts.
The recent deployment of the army and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) within the forested areas of Gilgit/Baltistan use the theory to deny the terrorists this advantage. The senior officers of the security force opine that the changed tact in combating terrorism is bearing fruit, because in most cases the terrorists have been met in encounters rather than being allowed to sneak in with malicious intent.
