Bangalore South sees intense battles as Congress promises change against BJP stronghold.
With over 22 lakh voters, Bangalore South is witnessing heated debates, campaigns and discussions as BJP’s 8-time winner Tejasvi Surya faces Congress’ Sowmya Reddy. While BJP banks on PM Modi‘s appeal, city infrastructure push and Surya’s work, Congress relies on assembly poll victory momentum and fulfilling its five guarantees.
Surya had trumped BK Hariprasad in 2019 by over 3.3 lakh votes, continuing BJP’s run since 1996 under Ananth Kumar. Reddy, daughter of ex-minister Ramalinga Reddy, aims to overcome the 16-vote loss in her Assembly defeat last year.
Reddy alleges illegalities overturned her slender win and hopes a court intervenes. She says it’s time to “save democracy, social fabric, and constitution.”
Though BJP leads in 5 of 8 assembly segments, Congress claims guarantees aiding millions, especially women and middle-lower classes, can end its winning streak.
Intense campaigning is ongoing, including public meetings, temple visits, and local discussions. The result may depend on voters’ faith in the BJP’s development agenda versus the Congress’ change rhetoric. The court decision’s impact on Jayanagar also attracts attention.
