Bengaluru man finds live worm in salad, sparks food safety debate

The trend of ordering food online has become so popular; it has nowadays become a habit for many. However, the alarming increase in complaints about eateries running under unhygienic conditions, more so those operating on food delivery apps, has raised several eyebrows among consumers. Social media, which is already abuzz with complaints, has come across a shocking discovery of a live worm found in a meal.

An Instagram video has the Bengaluru man pointing to a worm crawling inside the salad bowl; this has just reignited discussions on food safety and the urgent requirement for more strict hygiene regulations.

This now-viral clip has been shared from the Instagram account @fitnesskapratik, which has captured the moment he reveals his order from Fresh Menu, a prominent cloud kitchen listed on Zomato. He says he had ordered four items and received only three. While revealing one of the salad bowls, it contains a living worm inside, and he says that he doesn’t want to see the rest of the dishes. He calls upon Zomato to take action regarding the issue.

The man sounded disheartened in his video as he asked people to avoid ordering food from outside unless necessary. He tagged location Bengaluru, Karnataka, in his video and used hashtags #fitness #healthyfood #zomato.

Fresh Menu reacted quickly to the incident. They apologised and promised action. Seriousness was accepted when they said, “Finding a live worm in your salad is absolutely unacceptable. We are deeply sorry for this lapse.” The company said representatives visited the customer in person to address the issue and extend apologies, reassuring that disciplinary measures had been enacted against the team responsible, with increased training and hygiene checks across their kitchens.

Reactions, however, remain mixed online. Many people seem to share the same experience as Fresh Menu, encouraging home-cooked meals over ordered ones. Comments have varied from “garden fresh” humor to actual warnings against having food that was stale in the past. One person remembered having found a piece of plastic in the meal, and another said she would fall sick every time she ate food prepared by the cloud kitchen. The chorus of many has been very clear: home-cooked food is often the best.
