In a shocking incident, a Bengaluru man allegedly murdered an Assam-based vlogger, Maya Gogoi, and spent two days with her dead body in a service apartment. Sources in the police department said the accused, Aarav Hanoy, kept hanging around the apartment, smoking cigarettes in front of her dead body on Wednesday. The incident came into light on Tuesday within the limits of Indiranagar police.
Investigations reveal that Hanoy, who was in a relationship with Gogoi, killed her shortly after they checked into the service apartment. The murder reportedly occurred around midnight on Sunday. Maya, who lived with her sister in Bengaluru’s HSR Layout, had told her sibling on Friday night that she was at an office party and wouldn’t be returning home. A subsequent call on Saturday revealed she was out and would not come home that night either.
According to the police, Hanoy came to the service apartment with a knife and a nylon rope, which he had bought online in preparation for the crime. He is seen hailing a cab at 8:19 AM on Tuesday in the CCTV footage, confirming the suspicion of the police that he spent two days in the apartment with the body after murdering her.
Police are now in search of Hanoy, who, after reaching the Majestic area in Bengaluru’s Central Business District, fled from the apartment and switched off his cell phone. Investigators are tracing his movements, with searches extending into Kerala and other regions.
The police are also investigating the motive for which Hanoy remained with the body for so long and suspect that he might have contemplated dismembering it. During this period, no one else was seen entering the service apartment from November 23 to November 26.
