Betrayal of Public Trust: UPSC revokes fraudulent IAS trainee’s selection

This was least expected, but in a recent twist of events, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) annulled the selection of Puja Khedkar, an IAS trainee officer who was full of lies and forgery records.

Despite an assured seat in the Civil Services, Khedkar is caught embroiling the general’s seat to attempt the examination more than the given number of times. She even purported to afford her name and those of her parents in different forms to avoid the vigilance of the UPSC.

The UPSC remarked that it had only conducted a ‘perfunctory check’ of Khedkar’s application, which included confirming the documents annexed to it, such as the one on physical disability and OBC membership.

The commission admitted to its financial stringency, commenting that there ‘has never been any mandate or resources’ for them to examine the majority of the submitted certificates annually, which number in thousands.

It is specifically revealed that Khedkar duped everybody by collecting privileges that went beyond her rank in the police, notably an elusive siren for her black private Audi and a government embossed plate reading ‘Government of Maharashtra.’ Subsequent inquiries showed the forgery of a disabled certificate and a fake OBC petition, as a real estate jewel worth a large amount, came to the father’s attention.

The UPSC’s action of excluding Khedkar from the list of selected candidates, besides blacklisting her from all future examinations, is a clear pointer of the need to have appropriate and adequately strong measures to ensure that the process of selecting Civil Services is not corrupt.
