As a preparatory measure towards fulfilling his campaign promises, President Joe Biden of America has proposed a new approach to protect immigrant families from deportation.
According to the suggested amendments, the following individuals will be allowed to participate: Immigrants who are married to a US citizen permanently residing in the territory of the United States as of June 17, 2024, and have lived there for the last ten years. Upon acceptance of their application, the undocumented spouse will be given a 3-year work permit and assurance of non-deportation.
They can then apply for an aliquot permanent residency of the state, also known as the green card, within the 3 years of their temporary residency. The White House claims about 500,000 spouses, alongside 50,000 stepchildren, may make the most of the action.
Biden said that the plan would reduce the level of unfairness and injustice in the US immigration system for the betterment of the general populace. This policy must provide the opportunity for parole in place or being released and allowed to stay in the US without having to return to their home country in a situation that can only be described by the current state, which allows undocumented family members of US military members and veterans.
This helps them to legally reside in America and get employment without having to travel outside while waiting for permission to live there permanently through green card applications. The modifications do not apply to the largest number of individuals wedded to Americans and residing in the United States for up to nine years.
This announcement has also elicited mixed reactions from other immigration lobbying groups, the plight of skilled foreign workers on H-1B visas included. However, while traditionalists mourn the policy changes subsequently enacted by the Obama administration, progressives view the new policy as a positive development.
