Bihar’s Infrastructure problems are in the news as the state has seen a series of bridge failures in recent days and the issue has triggered opposition parties’ criticism.
The Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly and a key RJD leader, Tejashwi Yadav, had a field day of hurling intolerable barbs at the Nitish Kumar-led government in Bihar for its self-proclaimed ‘good governance’ agenda. “
He made such remarks that surfaced after an under-construction bridge fell in the Madhubani district, the fifth of its kind in the past 11 days. Yadav said the self-styled ‘Honest’ people are calling the public’s thousands of crores of rupees lost by the public due to the collapse of bridges as ‘courtesy’ rather than corruption.
In the same vein, 4 similar bridges have fallen in the past 11 days, making scrutiny of construction work and supervision highly doubtful, much to the increase of the Madhubani death toll. The recent cases of the collapse of the bridges have provoked a lot of heated arguments from most opposition party leaders who want a practical solution and prosecution of those behind the collapse.
The state rural works department has convened a meeting to check the structural health of bridges and culverts across the state, and officials entrusted with the task have been tasked with a one-week deadline to table a report.
