Microsoft Co-founder Bill Gates has joined a long list of people sending condolences over Ratan Tata’s demise. He called Tata a “visionary leader” whose work and commitment to bettering lives will leave an enduring legacy in and outside India. In a LinkedIn post, Gates went down memory lane about his numerous meetings with Tata and expressed his admiration for the business magnate’s passion for service and humanity.
“Ratan Tata was a visionary leader whose passion for empowering people made a deep and lasting impact on India—and the world,” Gates said, publishing an image of himself and Tata together online.
He underlined how much a sense of purpose Tata had with him at all times and said the joint work they had undertaken on several projects to strive to improve health and wellbeing would be missed. “His loss will be felt worldwide for years to come, but his legacy and the example he set will continue to inspire generations,” he added.
During his visit, Gates met with Ratan Tata and Tata Sons Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran in March last year. The meeting discussed philanthropic initiatives and ways to further strengthen the joint engagement in health, diagnostics, and nutrition. During this meeting, Gates also gifted copies of his books to Tata: How to Prevent the Next Pandemic and How to Avoid a Climate Disaster.
Ratan Tata, 86, died on Wednesday at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. His death sent shock waves across the world as people from every part of the globe mourned his death and paid tribute to the late tycoon business leader. Remembering the stalwart business leader, Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed him a “compassionate soul” and a “path-breaking entrepreneur.”
Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, paid his respects on social media to Tata’s “business and philanthropic legacy.”
He said he remembered his discussions with him and that he “cared deeply about making India better” and was impressed when he showed interest in insights into Waymo’s autonomous driving technology during a visit to Google. Pichai outlined Tata’s massive role as a mentor and nurturer of modern business leadership in India.
Other prominent figures, Such as Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra and RPG Enterprises Chairman Harsh Goenka, paid more illuminating tributes to Ratan Tata’s remarkable contributory role.
