The Bharatiya Janata Party has sharply attacked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his recent assertion that the Opposition is fighting not just the BJP but the Indian State. Union Health Minister and BJP President JP Nadda called out what he described as the “ugly truth” about Congress while Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman asked why Gandhi holds a copy of the Constitution if he says he is opposing the State.
Addressing the inauguration of the new headquarters of Congress in Delhi, Gandhi attacked BJP and its ideological parent RSS. He said, “Our ideology has been in conflict with the RSS’s for thousands of years. This is not a fair fight. If you think this is merely a battle against the BJP or RSS, you haven’t grasped the full situation. They have infiltrated every institution in our country. We are now fighting against the BJP, the RSS, and the Indian State itself.”
Countering him, Nadda said Gandhi’s comments expose Congress. “I commend Mr. Rahul Gandhi for articulating what the nation knows—that he is fighting the Indian state,” he said. He further accused Gandhi of being in league with “Urban Naxals” and a “Deep State” while claiming that the latter’s actions strengthen the belief that he aims to divide India.
Sitharaman highlighted the contradiction in Gandhi’s position as the Leader of the Opposition, stating, “The Leader of the Opposition, who took an oath on the Constitution, now claims he is fighting the Indian State.”
He also targeted RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat over his remarks that true freedom came only when the Ram Temple was consecrated, saying such statements were “treason.” He said it demoralizes the Independence struggle of this country, and such statements are not expected to be propounded.
