BJP challenges Rahul Gandhi over Sikh remarks amid tensions

BJP spokesperson RP Singh on Tuesday dared the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, to repeat his remarks on Sikhs in India and threatened to launch legal action against him. Singh relied on the riots incident that occurred in Delhi in the year 1984, whereby he stated that about 3,000 Sikhs were killed in that year under the Congress party administration.

During the riots, 3000 Sikhs were killed, their turbans were taken away, and their hair and beard cut, but Rahul Gandhi did not realize that it happened when Congress was in power. I challenge him to make such statements in India I will put case against him said Singh.

At present, Gandhi is visiting America; earlier, he stated that his fight is over the question of whether or not the Sikhs will be able to wear their turbans in India. And he feels, ‘It’s not about politics anymore, it is about rights, whether a Sikh can wear a turban, can wear a kada, can visit a Gurdwara, and this is not a Sikh’s battle or any Sikh community’s for that matter, this is a religious freedom issue. ’ These were his words when speaking in Virginia in 2010.

The union minister, Mr Shivraj Singh Chouhan, termed Gandhi’s statement antinational and stated that desperate opposition did not humiliate the government when abroad like Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Puri quipped that Rahul Gandhi had no reason to criticize India after he lost the two successive elections and said, ‘Maligning the country is treason’.

Congress party is fearful, as BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari stated, and they are tapping the alleged lies that they are telling. “The Congress party is currently living in a state of fear,” said Bhandari, further adding, “Whenever matters arise within the party, people get suspended immediately. The party’s leadership leads this fear as it seems to be more interested in protecting the people who have been accused of heinous crimes.

Gandhi also claimed that since the Lok Sabha results, Narendra Modi has been psychologically cornered, suggesting continual animosity between the two political parties.
