The Bharatiya Janata Party has also dissociated itself from MP Kangana Ranaut’s inflammatory comments on farm laws. The party’s National Spokesperson, Jaiveer Shergill, termed Ranaut’s comments “baseless and illogical” as they weaken PM Narendra Modi’s constructive work.
Speaking to ANI, Shergill said, “Glad that BJP has decided to dissociate itself from Ranaut’s uncalled-for statements against the farmers.” He further reaffirmed that all her relentless attacks on the Sikh community and the farmers of Punjab were causing damage to welfare-based work being carried out by the Prime Minister for the benefit of Punjab and its people. “Kangana Ranaut’s consistent rants are damaging all the good work that has been done for Punjab, Punjabi, and Punjabiyat,” he said.
This backlash comes after Ranaut publicly apologized and expressed her regret over her previous remarks on the farm laws, which were repealed after massive protests by farmers. An MP from Mandi controversially advocated for bringing back the three repealed farm laws, saying,
“I know this statement could be controversial, but the three farm laws should be brought back. Farmers themselves should demand it.”
Now, Ranaut has backtracked on her statement after the BJP termed the remarks “unauthorized,” adding she would henceforth toe the party line.
Shergill further reiterated that the relationship between Prime Minister Modi and Punjab and the farmers of Punjab remained “unbreakable.” He explained that such relations can’t be weakened by the irresponsible statements of a single MP.
Earlier, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia, too, described Ranaut’s remarks as personal views and different from the party’s stand over the farm bills. “It is a personal statement of hers,” Bhatia clarified, adding that it represents neither the BJP’s official stand nor its programmes.
