BJP leader’s son flees scene after Audi accident in Nagpur

In a rather unfortunate event in the early hours of Monday, Sanket Bawankule, the son of Maharashtra BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule, was involved in an accident in which his Audi car hit several vehicles in the Ramdaspeth area at around 1 AM while his dad was still in Rajasthan touting for a win at the Wankhede Stadium.

As per the police case reports, initially, the Audi had an impact on the car of Jitendra Sonkamble, who lodged the complaint and then hit the two-wheeler, injuring two young riders. After the incident, the driver and another passenger were arrested, while Sanket Bawankule and two others fled the scene, according to news reports.

The witnesses showed that the Audi kept on ramming other cars, including a Polo car, and its occupants followed it to near Mankapur bridge. The nabbed persons, Arjun Hawre and Ronit Chittamwar, were sent to Sitabuldi police station to undergo further interrogation while medical tests are still ongoing.

A case of rash driving and other offenses have been lodged today, according to the complaint filed by Sonkamble. As for Sanket Bawankule and the remaining two individuals who escaped, no measures have been taken against them.

When asked whether the car belonged to him and registered with his son, just so as not to let the officials question Bawankule, the elder said it was his son’s car but demanded a fair investigation.
