BJP workers storm Congress office in Mumbai, cause damage

The police are inspecting the office. This morning, BJYM protested outside it owing to “insults” against Dr BR Ambedkar allegedly made by Congress.

The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYUM), the youth wing of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), vandalized the Congress office at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan on Thursday, quoted PTI the police officials.

The workers damaged furniture and tore and threw ink on posters of Congress leaders, police told PTI. The police used lathi charges to disperse the crowd. The BJYM workers were also reportedly shouting slogans against the Congress while entering their office.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge slammed the incident on X, saying, “In a systematic conspiracy, BJP workers ransacked the offices of @INCMumbai and @INCWestBengal in Mumbai and Kolkata, respectively, which was later foiled by our committed Congress workers.”

Maharashtra assembly’s leader of opposition and Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar told ANI that the attack was an attempt to divert attention from comments about Babasaheb Ambedkar made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in parliament on December 18.

He continued: “There should have been action immediately. It happened in whose direction? We won’t take it lying down. The police officers are always there. Haven’t they received the report that this was going to happen? Action should be taken against the policemen if they don’t act accordingly,” he added.
