A tragic incident unfolded off the Mumbai coast on Wednesday when a boat carrying 80 passengers and five crew members capsized, killing two people and leaving several others missing. While 75 passengers have been successfully rescued, search operations continue for approximately a dozen people still unaccounted for, according to reports from news agency PTI.
The ferryboat, Neelkamal, had passengers on board, was going from the Elephanta Caves to the Gateway of India.
Following the disaster, a full-scale rescue operation has been mounted, led by the Navy and Coast Guard. Eleven Navy boats, three Marine Police vessels, and one Coast Guard boat have been deployed to assist in the rescue operations. Besides this, four helicopters, resources from the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, and assistance from local fishermen are contributing to the operation as the search for the missing continues.
