Bomb threat email triggers security alert at Bengaluru airport

Email threat threatens drone attacks on flights; Bengaluru’s KIA to increase security. Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) was dealt a bomb threat via an email on 8 February, sending alarm bells ringing at a time when the Aero show Aero India 2025 had begun in the city, stated Deccan Herald.

According to the report, the email, sent to this address mahanteshs6699@proton.me, warned of the possibility of a drone strike that the drones could carry out targeting incoming flights at airports in Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kerala. The sender demanded a response to a letter addressed to Basavaraj Bommai, the former Chief Minister of Karnataka and a Member of Parliament.

The letter read, “If I do not get a response to my letter from Basavaraj Bommai, there is going to be a drone attack on landing flights in Bangalore, Chennai, or Kerala airport.”

KIA is a key area, and following the alert, the authorities beefed up security there. The airport police filed an FIR under sections 125 (endangering the safety of others), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 353 (public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, or BNS. Now, it is investigating, tracing the source of the email and trying to determine the genuineness of the threat.

Security has been increased at the venue of Yelahanka Air Force Station in the event by increasing the strength of security personnel with drone surveillance and baggage check-up at strategic entry points because many international delegates, defence companies, and aviators have visited the show. Authorities are on high alert so that the show doesn’t go to a hitch and completes peacefully.
