The incident came to the surface on the 1st of September when the boy confessed to his parents that he was sexually molested by a neighbor.
In southeast Delhi’s Govindpuri, a five-year-old boy was raped by his neighbor, and the locals went on a rampage—they surrounded the police station and blocked a road.
The matter only surfaced on September 1 when the boy, under pressure from his parents, told them that he was sexually abused by his neighbor, Balram Das alias Kalu. The police lodged a POCSO case and arrested the accused on Tuesday night as the news spread like wildfire in the area.
Whenever Balram Das was shifting to the police station, people came in large numbers and attempted to harm the accused and police. Although the police were able to ensure the accused was taken to the station by the police station.
Later at night, the angry mob descended to Govind Puri police station, squatted down on the road to make a round-the-clock demo, and it hampered traffic flow. It grew chaotic as the crowd raised molten slogans. Even as senior officers promised stern action against the accused, the crowd remained adamant to allow police to disperse them.
Wednesday saw a lot of police presence in the region, and the paramilitary was also called in to disperse the protesters.
Police have stated that the five-year-old boy was kidnapped by his next-door neighbor on Sunday, and the boy was later subdued by drugs and sexually molested. The boy was then chased by the family after a few hours, then taken to the police station.
The victim was taken for medical examination to AIIMS and was later dropped at a care home at Lajpat Nagar.
On Tuesday, the boy made his statement before a magistrate. The boy also informed the Child Welfare Committee of the alleged abuse, the PTI reported.
