Andhra Assembly elects TDP’s Ayyannapatrudu as Speaker.
C. Ayyannapatrudu of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has been elected unanimously as the Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
His election on Saturday was a formality as no other MLA filed nominations to challenge him. Only three nominations were received in his favor on Friday.
The session commenced on Saturday with the swearing-in of the remaining MLAs. Three legislators who could not take oath on Day 1 finished the formalities.
With this, all 175 members of the southern state’s Assembly have assumed office. YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy is likely to skip proceedings as he plans to visit the Kadapa district.
As per TDP statements, the former Chief Minister will remain in his hometown Pulivendula for the next three days.
On Friday, the secretary general confirmed just three nominations were received before the deadline for the Speaker’s post. Ayyannapatrudu’s election faced no opposition.
His assumption of the Assembly’s top post formalized the commencement of the first session of the new House in Andhra Pradesh.
