CBI busts NEET paper leak racket, arrests masterminds and solvers

Finally, in the NEET-UG paper leakage scandal, the Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI, has arrested one of the kingpins and two MBBS Students, who are said to be ‘solvers’ during the examination.

The two students arrested have been named Kumar Manglam Bishnoi and Deepender Kumar, both studying at the Bharatpur Medical College. Higher-ups claimed technical intelligence proved that the duo was in and around Hazaribagh on the day of the NEET-U. G examination.

Bishnoi, a second-year MBBS student, and Sharma, a first-year medical student, were reported to be working as ‘solvers’ for the stolen paper. Pankaj Kumar, a 2017-batch civil engineer from the National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur, was accused of having stolen the paper.

Separately, the CBI also arrested Surabhi Kumari, a first-year MBBS student from Ranchi’s Rajendra Institute of Medical Science, for being involved in the ‘solver module’.

New arrests were made just after the National Testing Agency (NTA) declared the center—and city-wise outcomes of NEET-UG meeting the Supreme Court’s directives. The apex court is entertaining several cases that touch on alleged malpractices in the organization of medical examinations.

The NEET-UG is one of the most important national-level examinations for admission into MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related courses in all government and private colleges of the country.

This year, the examination was conducted on May 5 at 4,750 centers in 571 cities and 14 centers in foreign countries. Candidates who appeared for this test reached more than 23 lakh.

CBI’s nailing of the alleged paper leak racket has caused tremors in the medical education sector, as doubts over the credibility of the examination have arisen. As the investigation goes deeper and longer, the agency will discover other issues regarding the conspiracy and the people involved.
