Sources indicated that the agency did not find any proof that anyone had pushed Sushant Rajput towards suicide and Ms Chakraborty and her family have been cleared of all charges. Over four years after it assumed the investigation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has submitted a closure report in the case of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, sources informed on Saturday.
Sushant Singh Rajput, 34, was discovered hanging in his apartment in Mumbai’s Bandra on June 14, 2020. His death had left thousands of fans stunned and raised several theories – some of which claimed a black magic angle – leading to an investigation.
The officials have stated that the report of closure has been submitted in two cases – the one filed by Sushant Rajput’s father against his then girlfriend and actor Rhea Chakraborty and Ms Chakraborty’s complaint against Sushant’s family.
The CBI had seized the case from Bihar Police in August 2020. The sources added that after investigating for more than four years, the agency failed to detect any evidence that anyone had pushed Sushant Rajput to suicide and Ms Chakraborty and her family members were issued a clean chit. The CBI, they added, cleared all persons named in the two FIRs registered in the case, including Ms Chakraborty, her father and mother, and her brother.
A team of forensic experts from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) had already opined that Sushant Rajput was not killed but his death was due to death by suicide.
Following his death, an abetment of suicide case had been filed by the Bihar Police on the complaint lodged in Patna by Rajput’s father KK Singh. The actor’s family had alleged that Ms Chakraborty had mentally tortured him, drugged him, looted him and was involved in his death.
When the CBI stepped in to investigated, the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) was requested to examine the crime scene forensically. A laptop, hard disks, a Canon camera and two mobiles were seized and all of them were examined forensically.
Ms Chakraborty was one of more than 20 individuals who were interrogated during the probe. Following the filing of the closure report, the Bandra magistrate court has fixed the next date for hearing in the case on April 8. After the court permits the closure report, the case can be disposed of.
